Mille Miglia has his legend thanks to his legendary drivers and their actions.
These are the historic drivers of Mille Miglia, those who have won at least one Freccia Rossa race:
Clemente Biondetti: four times Mille Miglia winner: 1938, 1947, 1948, 1949 editions.
Born in 1898, died in 1955, he was a classic stree and endurance driver.
Tazio Nuvolari: two times winner of this race in 1930 and 1933 and second in other two occasions: 1934 and 1947. Born in 1892, died in 1953. Tazio Nuvolari has invented drift technique.
Giuseppe Campari: two times Mille Miglia winner: 1928 and 1929. He was called “el negher” ("the black") for the dark colour of his skin.
Carlo Pintacuda: winner in 1935 and 1937 editions. He was one of the most important member of “fiorentine school”.
Giannino Marzotto: winner in 1950 and 1953.
Amedeo Bignami: winner in 1932 as co-driver of Bakunin Borzacchini, and in 1934 beside to Achille Varzi.
Marco Crosara: winner in 1950 and 1953 beside to Giannino Marzotto.
Giulio Ramponi: winner in 1928 and 1929 as co-driver of Giuseppe Campari.
Paride Mambelli: winner in 1937 edition as Carlo Pintacuda co-driver
Achille Varzi: considered one of the best drivers of his generation with Tazio Nuvolari. He won Mille Miglia in 1934.
Giuseppe Morandi: winner of first Mille Miglia edition in 1927 near to Ferdinando "Nando" Minoia.
Giovanni Bracco: winner in Mille Miglia 1952 with a Ferrari 250.
Antonio Brivio: winner in 1936.
Pasquale Cassani: winner in 1951 as Luigi Villoresi co-driver.
Ettore Salani: first in 1949 beside to Clemente Biondetti.
Piero Taruffi: winner in 1957.
Aldo Stefani: winner in 1938 near to Clemente Biondetti.
Alberto Ascari: won Mille Miglia in 1954.
Eugenio Castellotti: winner of 1956 Mille Miglia edition.
Bakunin Borzacchini: winner in 1932 with an Alfa Romeo.
Rudolf Caracciola: Also known as rain wizard was the first stranger to win Mille Miglia in 1931.
Fritz Huschke von Hanstein: winner in 1940
Ferdinando Minoia: winner of first edition in 1927 with an OM.
Stirling Moss: winner of Mille Miglia in 1955. His media of Kmh record is not surpassed
Luigi Villoresi: winner in 1951 edition of Mille Miglia.
Walter Baumer: co-driver of Fritz Huschke von Hanstein in the victory of 1940.
Decimo Compagnoni: won Mille Miglia in 1933 with di Tazio Nuvolari.
Alessandro Della Stufa: co-driver of Pintacuda and winner in 1935.
Giovanni Battista Guidotti: winner of Mille Miglia in 1930 edition with Tazio Nuvolari.
Dennis Jenkinson: won 1955 edition with Stirling Moss.
Giuseppe Navone: won in 1948 with Biondetti.
